About The Prairie School of Traditional Music
The Prairie School was founded to provide music lessons to beginning students in banjo, guitar, mandolin and ukulele. Our objective is to provide our students with the basic skills that will enable them to join with others in informal jams. We offer group lessons that emphasize the fun of playing with others and private lessons for those who want to further develop their playing ability. We encourage students to form their own informal arrangements to play with other musicians.
Our instructors have years of playing and teaching experience as well as participation in area jams and festivals. We teach and play all forms of Americana, Bluegrass, Old Time or Roots music, including bluegrass, folk, country, blues, old standards, rock and roll. If you enjoy the music of John Prine, Steve Earl, Dirt Band, Earle Scruggs , Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, Muddy Waters, Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, Neil Young, Avett Brothers, Hank William, Johnny Cash…you get the idea… then you'll probably like playing with us. Come on in, pull off your coat, throw it in the corner and pick with us for awhile.
